McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C Hornet

Swiss Air Force 11 Staffel Tigers, #J-5011, Meiringen AB, Switzerland, 2020

The latest home base for Fliegerstaffel 11 (Fighter Squadron 11) (Tigers) is Meiringen AB. Although Switzerland is not a member of NATO, Fliegerstaffel 11 is a member of the NATO Tiger Association and takes part in their Tiger Meets. Fliegerstaffel 11 became a full member in 1991. In 2004 a decision was made to give an F/A -18C a permanent special tiger scheme with the honor going to aircraft J-5011. During normal operation, J-5011 is flown by the squadron commander and if the Solo Display aircraft is from Fliegerstaffel 11, the aircraft will be J-5011.

McDonnell Douglas F/A -18 Hornet

Designed to replace the A-4 Skyhawk and the A-7 Corsair II and in addition to the F-14 Tomcat, the F / A-18 first flew on November 18, 1978. Perhaps best known as the US Navy Blue Angels aircraft, this all-weather supersonic fighter capable of carrying passengers, has many roles, including fighter escort, fleet air defense and close air support. The F / A-18 is a versatile aircraft: it can operate from carriers or ground bases and a single switch converts it to hit mode. During Operation Desert Storm, the F / A-18 demonstrated that during a single mission, an aircraft could serve as both a fighter and a bomber.
