Description

Northwest Orient Boeing 747-151 / N605US

B-Models / 1:200 / B-741-605P

Northwest Orient Airlines, the trade name of Northwest Airlines from 1947 to 1986, symbolized the ambition to connect the United States with Asia. Founded in 1926, the airline was a pioneer in the North Pacific, connecting Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, and Manila, and playing a central role in the growth of trans-Pacific air travel. In the United States, Northwest Orient was also a major player in the domestic market, introducing iconic aircraft such as the Boeing 707, the Boeing 727, and the Boeing 747. The airline remains famous for the fascinating story of the unsolved D.B. Cooper hijacking in 1971, as well as for several incidents that occurred in the 1960s. In 1986, following the acquisition of Republic Airlines, Northwest dropped the “Orient” from its name and became simply Northwest Airlines. Despite financial difficulties and filing for bankruptcy in 2005, the airline carried on its legacy until its merger with Delta Air Lines, which was finalized in 2010, marking the end of an era while retaining its influence in modern aviation.

The Boeing 747-151 with registration number N605US (serial number 19782/62) was a first-generation wide-body aircraft operated by the American airline Northwest Orient Airlines. The aircraft rolled off the Boeing production line and made its maiden flight on July 11, 1970. It flew for more than two decades under the airline’s colors (which later became Northwest Airlines), serving major international hubs such as Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Chicago, London-Gatwick, and Frankfurt. The aircraft was retired from service in the early 1990s and was eventually dismantled (scrapped) in Mojave, California, in January 1993, after a career spanning just over 22 years.
