Description
Northrop YF-23 Black Widow II
USAF 57th WG, 64th AGRS, Blue 054, Nellis AFB, NV, Fantasy Aircraft
Hobby Master 1:72 HA2852
The 64th Aggressor Squadron is assigned to the 57th Wing at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. It currently flies the F-16C Fighting Falcon aircraft, painted in camouflage schemes identical to those observed on Russian-manufactured aircraft, providing Air Combat Maneuvering training to USAF and other aviation forces in conjunction with Red Flag exercises.
Although the squadron does not fly the F-23, this model asks the question: What might an Aggressor Squadron F-23 have looked like? Wearing a three-tone splinter camouflage scheme similar to that of Russian Su-27 and Su-57 fighter jets, this model represents a ficticious Aggessor Squadron F-23 Black Widow II.
Northrop YF-23 Black Widow II
Designed to meet a US Air Force requirement for an Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) to replace the F-15 Eagle, the YF-23 demonstrator was first flown on August 27th, 1990. The USAF's ATF program aimed to produce a fifth-generation air superiority fighter that would be better matched against emerging new aircraft such as the Su-27 Flanker. After a four-year development and evaluation process, the YF-22 team was selected in favor of the YF-23 in 1991. Although the YF-23 was stealthier and faster, it was less agile than its competitor.
