Delta Air Lines, Inc. is one of the leading U.S. airlines and a founding member of the SkyTeam global alliance. Its headquarters are located in Atlanta, Georgia. With more than 5,400 daily flights serving over 325 destinations in 52 countries, it ranks among the world’s largest airlines. Delta is distinguished by its premium positioning, its focus on service quality, and its excellent on-time performance. It operates several major hubs, including in Atlanta, New York (JFK and LaGuardia), Los Angeles, and Seattle. Founded in 1924 as an agricultural spraying company, the airline gradually shifted its focus to passenger transport and experienced significant expansion, particularly through mergers with Western Airlines in 1987 and Northwest Airlines in 2008.
The Boeing 727-100, illustrated here by Delta Air Lines’ N1633, was an iconic narrow-body trijet of the 1960s through 1980s, renowned for its ability to operate on short runways. Valued for its ruggedness, it formed the backbone of Delta’s domestic network. The 727 was also the first airliner to be equipped with an auxiliary power unit (APU).
