Lufthansa (Deutsche Lufthansa AG) is Germany’s leading airline and one of Europe’s top carriers, founded in 1926 in Berlin. It connects Germany to the world through an extensive network, having carried 122.6 million passengers in 2023 for the group. Symbolized by the crane, Lufthansa is a pillar of the Star Alliance and operates international flights, particularly from its hubs in Frankfurt and Munich. As early as 1934, it launched transoceanic routes to South America. During World War II, the company was involved with the Nazi regime and employed forced laborers. After the dissolution of the former entity in 1945, the “new” Lufthansa was founded in 1953 in Cologne and resumed flights in 1955, marking the beginning of the modern era with the introduction of the Boeing 707, which revolutionized the transatlantic network. Today, Lufthansa celebrates over 100 years of history and reaffirms its role as a major global player with a modern fleet, including Airbus A350s and Boeing 787s.
Lufthansa’s Boeing 747-8i, registered D-ABYT and nicknamed “Yankee Tango,” is a modern passenger aircraft featuring a special retro livery from the 1970s (white top, gray belly, blue stripe) to celebrate the airline’s heritage. Introduced around 2015, this aircraft is a mainstay of the long-haul fleet. It is equipped with fuel-efficient GE GEnx engines, redesigned wings, and a capacity of approximately 364 to 467 passengers depending on the configuration
