Designed as a narrow-body twin-engine airplane to replace the 727, the 757 flew for the first time on February 19, 1982. Developed in tandem with the 767 large-box twinned, the two planes share a common digital cockpit layout and Are operated by a crew of two men. With a proven history of reliability, the 757 is approved for dual engine operation (ETOPS), making it a popular choice for airlines operating transatlantic flights. A total of 1050 aircraft were built before the end of production in 2004, but many cells have since been equipped with mixed winglets reducing drag to improve fuel economy.
