Mitsubishi F-4EJ Phantom II

JASDF 301st Hikotai, #37-8315, Hyakuri AB, Japan

F-4 Phantom Retirement 2019

Hobby Master 1/72 HA19022

In March 2019 the 302nd Hikotai was disbanded with their F-4EJs going to the last Phantom squadron, the 301st Hikotai. One of the F-4Ejs was 37-8315 that was produced as c/n 4206/M015. The fate of the 302nd would also happen to the 301st in 2020 when the last F-4s would fly for Japan and would be replaced by the F-35. To mark the 301st disbanding F-4EJ 37-8315 was given a special paint scheme titled "Go for it!! 301 SQ". The 301st mascot is a type of frog found locally at Hyakuri AB.

McDonnell Douglas F-4J Phantom II

Designed as a defence fighter for the US Navy, the F-4 Phantom flew for the first time on May 27, 1958. This twin-engine, long-range fighter/bomber proved to be highly adaptable and served in the Marine Corps and US Air Force as well as the Navy. During the Vietnam War, it was the main air superiority fighter of the Navy and the Air Force and was also used for reconnaissance and ground attacks. The Phantom continued to serve for much of the 1970s and 1980s and even carried out missions during the first Gulf War. Finally Replaced by the F-14, F-16 and F/A-18, the Phantom was withdrawn in 1996.
