Called the "Apache", this formidable helicopter has replaced the AH-1 Cobra as the US Army's main attack helicopter. At the time of its launch, the Apache was revolutionary, with an innovative helmet-mounted display and improved survivability in the event of an accident. It is heavily armoured and has been called a "flying tank", not only because of its defences, but also because of its ability to inspire fear on the battlefield. The Apache became a symbol of the Army's air power, serving in both Gulf Wars and Afghanistan.
