TWA stands for Trans World Airlines, a former American airline that merged with American Airlines in 2001.

Boeing 727-200 N64339 was delivered to Trans World Airlines in 1974. It was briefly stripped to bare metal in a weight-saving test, though later repainted. The aircraft gained notoriety on 14 June 1985, when it was involved in the hijacking of TWA Flight 847 from Athens to Rome, one of aviation's most infamous hijackings. N64339 continued flying TWA's domestic and international routes for over two decades. It operated TWA's final 727 revenue service on 30 September 2000 before being ferried to Victorville, California, and ultimately scrapped in 2002, closing the career of this historic airframe.
