Relaunched in December 2023 by the Mexican government, the new Mexicana de Aviación is a state-owned low-cost carrier managed by the military (SEDENA) and based at Mexico City’s Felipe Ángeles Airport (AIFA). It aims to connect the country’s inland cities at affordable fares, with an expanding fleet of Boeing and Embraer aircraft. The airline plans to have 20 aircraft by 2027, including the new Embraer E190-E2 and E195-E2, marking the revival of this iconic brand that disappeared in 2010.

Mexicana’s first Embraer 195-E2, registered XA-MXA, scheduled for delivery from Brazil between June and July 2025, is configured as a single-class aircraft with 132 seats and paves the way for a modern fleet for regional flights.
