Pan American World Airways (Pan Am) was the leading international airline in the United States and an icon of the 20th century (1927–1991). A pioneer in aviation, it popularized travel by seaplane (clippers), introduced commercial jets such as the Boeing 707 and wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 747, dominating global routes with luxury service before disappearing due to financial difficulties and deregulation. Pan Am remains a symbol of aviation’s golden age, represented by its iconic “blue globe” logo and flight attendants in their iconic uniforms. The airline also laid the groundwork for modern air travel.

The Boeing 747-121 N747PA, named “Clipper Juan Trippe” (formerly Clipper America), is a historic aircraft delivered to Pan Am in October 1970. The second 747 ever built, it is famous for marking the dawn of the wide-body era, named in honor of the company’s founder, and remained in service until Pan Am’s closure in 1991.
