Launched in December 2023 by the Mexican government, the new Mexicana de Aviación is a state-owned low-cost carrier managed by the military (SEDENA) and based at Mexico City’s Felipe Ángeles Airport (AIFA). It aims to connect the country’s inland cities at affordable fares, with an expanding fleet of Boeing and Embraer aircraft. The airline plans to have 20 aircraft by 2027, including the new Embraer E190-E2 and E195-E2, marking the revival of this iconic brand that disappeared in 2010.

The Embraer ERJ-145EP, registered as XA-MBR, is a 50-seat regional twin-engine jet operated for Mexicana de Aviación under a lease agreement with the Mexican airline TAR Aerolíneas. It is primarily used to serve short-haul domestic routes. With serial number 145187, the aircraft had several owners before entering the Mexican market. It notably served in the operator’s initial certification flight procedures and continues to fulfill regional connectivity missions.
