Qantas Airways, founded in 1920 in Queensland, is Australia’s leading airline and the third-oldest in the world. Nicknamed “The Flying Kangaroo,” it is renowned for its safety and operates flights between Australia and the rest of the world from its hubs in Sydney and Melbourne. A founding member of the Oneworld alliance, Qantas also includes the low-cost carrier Jetstar, launched in 2004. The airline operates a modern fleet, including the Airbus A380 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner. It is famous for having had no fatal jet accidents since 1951. As part of its “Project Sunrise,” Qantas aims to offer direct, ultra-long-haul flights, such as Sydney–London, without stopovers.

Qantas’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner VH-ZND, nicknamed “Yam Dreaming ” (Emily Kame Kngwarreye), is a long-range airliner featuring a unique Indigenous artistic livery, unveiled in 2018. Registered as VH-ZND, this aircraft showcases Australian Aboriginal culture through an artwork depicting the yam, bridging art and aviation technology.
