Iberia, or Iberia Líneas Aéreas de España, is Spain's flag carrier, based at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport. Founded in 1927, it is one of the oldest airlines in the world and currently serves more than 130 destinations in 50 countries. In 1946, after the Civil War, it became the first airline to connect Europe with Latin America by launching the Madrid–Buenos Aires route. In 1954, it began transatlantic service to New York, facilitated by the “Madrid Pact.” Iberia was partially privatized in 1999 and joined the Oneworld alliance. In 2008, British Airways acquired the airline, leading to their official merger in 2009 and the creation of the IAG Group. It consistently ranks among the most punctual airlines in Europe and continues to modernize its fleet for long-haul and medium-haul flights.

The Boeing 747-341 TF-ATJ is an iconic four-engine “Jumbo Jet” operated by Iberia. Built in May 1988, this long-haul aircraft flew for Air Atlanta Icelandic before being leased to Iberia, where it was assigned to high-traffic routes, notably between Madrid and the Canary Islands. In 2005, the lease with Iberia ended, and the aircraft was returned to the Air Atlanta Icelandic fleet before finally being withdrawn from service and scrapped.
