Kawasaki T-4 JASDF 11th Hikotai Blue Impulse  96-5621, Matsushima AB, Japan, T-4 20th Anniversary 2016

Blue Impulse is 11 Squadron, 4 Air Wing of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force and the National Acrobatic Demonstration Team. They were formed in 1960 and were originally called Tenryu but became Blue Impulse. Their first aircraft were 6 F-86 Sabres and in 1982, after 545 demonstrations, they went to Matsushima Air Force Base and began using the Mitsubishi T-2. The T-2 was used for 175 demonstrations until 1996, when it was replaced by the Kawasaki T-4. In 2016, to celebrate the T-4's 20th anniversary, the Blue Impulse aircraft received a special paint.

Designed to replace the Fuji T-1 as an intermediate training aircraft for the Japanese Air Self-Defense Force, the T4 flew for the first time on July 29, 1985.
