General Dynamics F-111C Aardvark

RAAF No.1 Sqn, A8-131, Squadron 30 years 2003

Hobby Master 1:72  HA3033

The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) No. 1 Squadron marked the 30th anniversary of its operation of the F-111 strike aircraft with a commemorative livery on one of its jets. This milestone celebrated three decades of excellence in precision strike and reconnaissance roles, showcasing the squadron's pivotal contribution to Australia's air combat capability. The F-111, often called the "Pig" for its terrain-following radar abilities, symbolized cutting-edge technology and adaptability. The special livery reflected pride in the squadron's heritage, while the event highlighted the F-111's legacy as an iconic aircraft in RAAF history, replaced later by the F/A-18F Super Hornet.

General Dynamics F-111C Aardvark
Designed to meet the combined requirements of the US Air Force and the US Navy, the F-111 Aardvark was first flown on December 21, 1964. Several versions of the F-111 were developed, but the Navy canceled its version in 1968 leaving the Air Force the F-111's sole US operator. The Aardvark was well ahead of its time, pioneering such technologies as terrain following radar, afterburning turbofans and variable sweep wings. Though it was originally conceived as a multi-role fighter, it was better suited to a role as a long-range attack aircraft. It was armed with air-to surface ordnance and was equipped to carry free-fall nuclear weapons.

Hobby Master "1:72 Air Power Series" diecast airplanes feature:

  • Molded metal construction with plastic components.
  • Realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels and surface details.
  • Inscriptions and posters printed with a stamp that do not fade or fall off like decals.
  • opening of awnings, revealing detailed within the cockpit.
  • Extended / retracted interchangeable landing gear.
  • Display stand to display the aircraft "in flight".
  • Authentic detachable artillery cargoes complete with placards.
