Messerschmitt Bf 109E

Luftwaffe "Karl Wolff" Yellow 15, , France, August 1940

Hobby Master 1:48 HA8723

The Jagdgeschwader 52 became the Luftwaffe's most successful fighter unit, mainly thanks to its operations on the Eastern Front. However, it was during the Battle of France and, later, the Battle of Britain that its successes began. By the end of 1940, the unit's pilots had already shot down 177 aircraft. On the other hand, losses were also high. During the Battle of Britain alone, the unit lost 53 pilots. The unit was also unique in that, during the war, it was equipped exclusively with Bf 109s. The Bf 109E-3 “Yellow 15”, with which Uffz. Karl Wolff crashed on landing on August 30, 1940. A month after his hard landing, Uffz. Wolff was shot down and taken prisoner.

Messerschmitt Bf 109E

Designed to meet a Luftwaffe need for a single-seat fighter/interceptor, the Messerschmitt Bf 109 was first flown on May 28th, 1935. Its all-metal construction, closed canopy and retractable gear made the Bf 109 one of the first true modern fighters of WWII. This versatile aircraft served in many roles and was the most produced aircraft of the war and the backbone of the Luftwaffe, and was flown by Germany's top three aces, who claimed a total of 928 victories between them. Armed with two cannons and two machine guns, the Bf 109's design underwent constant revisions, which allowed it to remain competitive until the end of the war.

Hobby Master "1:48 Air Power Series" diecast airplanes feature:
