In 1971, the Israeli Air Force's 101 Squadron, known as the "First Fighter Squadron," operated the Mirage IIICJ, a French-built multirole fighter. The Mirage IIICJ was a cornerstone of Israel's air defense, providing high-speed interception and ground attack capabilities. Throughout 1971, 101 Squadron pilots trained intensively to maintain combat readiness amid regional tensions. The Mirage IIICJ's agility, speed, and advanced avionics allowed the squadron to perform air superiority missions effectively. This period was critical in preparing the squadron for the challenges of the Yom Kippur War two years later, cementing 101 Squadron's reputation as an elite Israeli fighter unit.

Dassault Mirage IIICJ Shahak

Designed to meet a French government specification for a lightweight, all-weather interceptor, the Dassault Mirage III was first flown on November 17, 1956. This supersonic aircraft has a tailless delta wing configuration and is capable of high speeds (a Mirage IIIA was the first European aircraft to exceed Mach 2 in level flight). It has a provision for a SEPR liquid-fuel rocket engine, which provides additional burst thrust. In production for over a decade, the Mirage III is considered one of Europe's most successful military aircraft designs, serving 20 different nations, some of whom still fly it today.
