TWA stands for Trans World Airlines, a former American airline that merged with American Airlines in 2001.

McDonnell Douglas DC-9-15 N1070T was delivered to Trans World Airlines on August 19, 1967, joining the carrier's growing fleet of short-haul jets. As one of TWA's early DC-9's, it flew dense domestic routes throughout the late 1960s and 1970s, serving cities across the Midwest and East Coast. The aircraft left TWA in 1981, moving to Midway Airlines and later operating for Great American Airways. Re-registered in Mexico as XA-TJS, it finished its career with AVIACSA. After more than three decades of service, the airframe was withdrawn in the early 2000s, marking the end of a long multicarrier lifespan.
