In early 2025, France delivered six upgraded Mirage 2000-5F fighters to Ukraine to enhance its air defense and strike capabilities. Originally designed for air superiority, these jets were modified to carry SCALP-EG cruise missiles and AASM precision bombs. Ukrainian pilots trained in France before deployment. The aircraft saw their first combat use in March 2025, intercepting Russian missiles and drones. While praised for their advanced radar and MICA missiles, the Mirages face logistical and maintenance challenges in Ukraine's mixed fleet. One was lost in a July 2025 crash, but the remaining jets continue frontline service alongside incoming F-16s.

Dassault Mirage 2000-5F

Designed as a lightweight fighter for the French Air Force, the Dassault Mirage 2000 was first flown on March 10th, 1978. The Mirage 2000 is a fourth generation fighter based on the Mirage III. It has a delta wing, one engine, a dual-intake, and can carry a range of air-to-surface weapons, including laser-guided bombs. Variants include a single-seat or dual-seat version. The dual-seat 2000N is nuclear strike capable, armed with nuclear weapons and equipped with navigation avionics that are capable of handling air-to-ground munitions. The Mirage 2000C is a single-seat, all weather interceptor armed with high firing rate 30mm guns.
