Founded in 1970 to compete with American giants, Airbus has become a global leader in aviation. Created as a European consortium, Airbus revolutionized the market with major innovations, notably fly-by-wire controls introduced on the A320. To break the Boeing 747’s monopoly, the manufacturer launched the A380 superjumbo program in December 2000, marking Europe’s greatest industrial challenge.

The F-WWOW (nicknamed “Oscar Whisky”) is aircraft MSN 001, the one that started it all. The historic maiden flight took place on April 27, 2005, taking off from Toulouse-Blagnac in front of more than 50,000 spectators. It is the only civil aircraft featuring two full decks along its entire length. It is approximately 73 meters long, has a wingspan of nearly 80 meters, and stands 24 meters tall. It is powered by four Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines. The aircraft has not yet finished its pioneering career. After being stored, the F-WWOW resumed test flights for Airbus, serving notably as a flying test bed to test new sustainable fuels.
