Lufthansa (Deutsche Lufthansa AG) is Germany’s leading airline and one of Europe’s top carriers, founded in 1926 in Berlin. It connects Germany to the world through an extensive network, having carried 122.6 million passengers in 2023 for the group. Symbolized by the crane, Lufthansa is a pillar of the Star Alliance and operates international flights, particularly from its hubs in Frankfurt and Munich. As early as 1934, it launched transoceanic routes to South America. During World War II, the company was implicated in the Nazi regime and employed forced laborers. After the dissolution of the former entity in 1945, the “new” Lufthansa was founded in 1953 in Cologne and resumed flights in 1955, marking the beginning of the modern era with the introduction of the Boeing 707, which revolutionized the transatlantic network. Today, Lufthansa celebrates more than 100 years of history and reaffirms its role as a major global player with a modern fleet, including Airbus A350s and Boeing 787s.

The Airbus A350-900 with registration number D-AIXL (MSN 255) was delivered to Lufthansa on November 20, 2018, and named after the German city of “Rostock.” The aircraft is currently at the paint shop in Châteauroux, France, to receive a special XXL anniversary livery (celebrating the 100th anniversary of the airline, founded in 1926), featuring a dark blue fuselage and a huge stylized white crane. It will officially join Lufthansa’s centennial commemorative fleet in early February 2026. The aircraft actively operates regular long-haul flights from Munich to major international destinations in Lufthansa’s global network (such as Singapore, Beijing, San Francisco, and São Paulo).
