Grumman F4F Wildcat   

The Grumman F4F Wildcat is a carrier-based aircraft that was the primary fighter used by the United States Navy and Marine Corps in the Pacific Theatre at the beginning of World War II. With a top speed of 318 mph (F4F-4 variant), the Wildcat was generally surpassed by the Japanese A6M Zero, which was faster, more maneuverable and had a longer range, but the Wildcat held its ground with excellent survivability thanks to its rugged construction and strong armor plating. The F4F-4 entered service in 1941 with 6 machine guns and the folding wing system that allowed more aircraft to be stored in a carrier. It was the final Wildcat that saw the most fighting, including the Battle of Midway. The model is about 4 inches long and has a wingspan of 5 inches.
