The F-80 Shooting Star was the first jet fighter used operationally by the U.S. Army Air Force. It had a conventional all-metal airframe, with a right wing and tricycle landing gear. It was the first operational jet to have its engine in the fuselage. It had limited action during the Second World War, but as the first American jet to be manufactured in large quantities, it had significant combat action during the Korean War.
The FT-547 Shooting Star, named "Evil Eye Fleagle / Miss Barbara Ann" was assigned to the 8th Fighter-Bomber Wing based at Suwon Air Force Base.
