McDonnell Douglas F-15C "Mod" Eagle

USAF 52nd FW, 53rd FS, no.84-0025, Spangdahlem AB, Germany 1990s

Hobby Master 1:72 HA4532

While assigned to the 53rd Fighter Squadron, 36th Fighter Wing F-15C MSN 0936/C328 was credited with shooting down two MiG-23s trying to escape Iraq for Iran. On January 27, 1991 Captain Jay "Op" Denney used AIM-9Ms to bring the aircraft down. It was decided to try a third different paint scheme on the F-15 called Mod Eagle. This new scheme replaced the second scheme called Compass Ghost Grey. The first scheme was called Air Superior Blue that was short lived and only making it onto a prototype, preproduction and a few production aircraft.

Boeing F-15C Mod Eagle

Designed to meet US Air Force requirements for an air superiority fighter to replace the F-4 Phantom, the F-15 Eagle first flew on July 27, 1972. The Air Force needed a fighter that could engage long range targets, a skill the F-4 did not possess. The F-15 has a pulse-Doppler radar system, which can track small high-speed targets up to 120 nautical miles away and can lock its missile onto targets up to 50 nautical miles away. With more than 100 aerial combat victories, the F-15 is said to be one of the most successful modern fighters. It is expected to remain in service until 2025.
