McDonnell Douglas F/A-18A Hornet

RAAF No.75 Sqn, A21-23 Worimi Hornet, Australia, 2016

Hobby Master 1/72 HA3554

F/A-18A A21-23 c/n 483/AF023 was delivered to the RAAF on February 8, 1988. In 2002 the aircraft was with the 75 Sqn and was selected to wear the special paint scheme for the unit's 60th anniversary. In 2006 the aircraft went to the 3 Sqn but soon returned to 75 Sqn. On February 24, 2015 F/A-18A A21-23 was unveiled wearing a special paint scheme called "Worimi Hornet" in honor of Leonard Waters and the aboriginal people. Len was the first RAAF aboriginal fighter pilot during WWII where he flew 95 missions.

McDonnell Douglas F/A -18 Hornet

Designed to replace the A-4 Skyhawk and the A-7 Corsair II and in addition to the F-14 Tomcat, the F / A-18 first flew on November 18, 1978. Perhaps best known as the US Navy Blue Angels aircraft, this all-weather supersonic fighter capable of carrying passengers, has many roles, including fighter escort, fleet air defense and close air support. The F / A-18 is a versatile aircraft: it can operate from carriers or ground bases and a single switch converts it to hit mode. During Operation Desert Storm, the F / A-18 demonstrated that during a single mission, an aircraft could serve as both a fighter and a bomber.
