Built from 1937 to 1940 and officially commissioned in late 1941, the Yamato served as Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto's flagship throughout 1942, his first navigation as part of the combined fleet during the Battle of Midway in June 1942. Throughout 1943, Yamato was continuously transferred between Truk, Kure and Brunei in response to American air strikes on the bases of the Japanese islands. The only time Yamato fired his main guns at enemy targets was in October 1944, but he was ordered to turn back after attacks by destroyers and planes of the "Taffy" light escort task groups that managed to sink three heavy cruisers during the battle of Samar. Yamato was sunk in April 1945 during Operation Ten-Go.
Forces of Valor warships are featured:
Die-cast metal construction with some plastic components.
Rotating turrets, lifting guns and precise hull.
Realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels and surface details.
Pad-printed markings and labels that will not fade or flake like decals.
Presentation display.
