The Azerbaijani Air Force uses modernized Mil Mi-24 helicopters for close air support, troop transport and armed escort missions. Acquired from post-Soviet states, these helicopters have been modernized to improve avionics, weapon systems and overall capabilities. Mi-24s were actively used in training and combat, notably during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, providing crucial support to ground forces. Their robust armament and armor make them effective in various combat scenarios, helping to maintain operational flexibility and improve the overall combat capabilities of the Azerbaijan Air Force.

Mil Mi-24V Hind-E

The Mil Mi-24 (NATO reporting name: Hind) is a large combat helicopter, attack helicopter and low-capacity eight-passenger troop transport. It is produced by the Mil Helicopter Plant in Moscow and was introduced by the Soviet Air Force in 1972. The helicopter is currently used by 58 countries.

In NATO circles, the export versions, Mi-25 and Mi-35, are designated by a letter suffix as "Hind D" and "Hind E". Soviet pilots called the Mi-24 the "flying tank", a term used historically with the famous Soviet Il-2 Shturmovik armored ground attack aircraft of the Second World War. Other common unofficial nicknames were "Galina" (or "Galya"), "Crocodile", because of the helicopter's camouflage scheme, and "Drinking Glass", because of the flat glass plates surrounding the cockpits of earlier Mi-24 variants.
