The concept of the Sd.Kfz. 7 dates back to 1934, the year when the need for this type of vehicle was felt. It was not until 1938 that the first vehicle actually left the factory. The vehicle was equipped with theatre-type benches that could accommodate up to 12 men. There was storage space in the rear for the ammunition for the large guns he usually towed. These vehicles required a lot of maintenance and were subject to track failure. On-road speed was not very good, but off-road capabilities compensated for it.

Hermann Goring also wanted to be part of the land victories and so he created an elite armoured division of the Luftwaffe called Fallschirm-Panzer-Division 1 Hermann Göring. As the activity of German bombers became less viable, crews were assigned to ground units. At the beginning of the Second World War, it was an air defence unit that gradually expanded to include armoured vehicles. The Sd.Kfz.7 was widely used to fire the 8.8 cm Flak heavy gun and up to 12 servants. This vehicle was under the command of the Luftwaffe Luftgaukommando VI (Munster).
