The Swiss Air Force purchased 26 C models and eight D models. One D model was lost in a crash Delivery of the aircraft started on 25 January 1996. McDonnell Douglas F/A -18 Hornet

Designed to replace the A-4 Skyhawk and the A-7 Corsair II and in addition to the F-14 Tomcat, the F / A-18 first flew on November 18, 1978.
