USAF Boeing B-52H 49th Test Orange Livery

Herpa Wings 1:200 / HE573726

This retro livery with its bright orange surfaces closely resembles the famous NB-52A and NB-52B test aircraft, serving as a reminder of the B-52’s rich history and continuing evolution. Starting back in 1957, the NB-52 aircraft were selected as launch pads for experimental aircraft such as the legendary X-15 hypersonic aircraft, or tested new equipment in support of the NASA space shuttle program. The last of these special Test BUFFs (Big Ugly Fat Fellows) were retired in 2004. By adopting the heritage orange livery, the 49th Test an Evaluation Squadron not only honors these past experimental aircraft but also symbolizes the ongoing modernization of the Stratofortress strategic bomber. Despite entering service in 1961, the B-52H remains a cornerstone of U.S. air power, with upgrades ensuring its viability until at least 2050.

Boeing B-52H Stratofortress
Designed to meet an Air Materiel Command requirement for a long-range, strategic bomber, the B-52 Stratofortress was first flown on April 15, 1952. First envisioned as a straight wing, six turboprop aircraft, the B-52 underwent a number of design changes before becoming the swept-wing, eight turbojet aircraft it is today. Originally built for Cold War era "deterrence" missions, this aircraft is capable of carrying nuclear weapons but in actual combat has only dropped conventional munitions. Its long service career has included Vietnam, the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan and Iraq, and it is expected to continue serving until at least 2050.

HERPA Wings 1:200 diecast airplanes feature:

  • Molded metal construction with plastic components.
  • Realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels and surface details.
  • Inscriptions and posters printed with a stamp that do not fade or fall off like decals.
  • opening of awnings, revealing detailed within the cockpit.
  • Extended / retracted interchangeable landing gear.
  • Display stand to display the aircraft "in flight".
  • Authentic detachable artillery cargoes complete with placards.
