Airport 75 Columbia Airlines Boeing 747-100

B-Models / 1:200 / B-741-AIRPORT75-50-P

Airport 1975: 747 in Peril (1974) is an American disaster film directed by Jack Smight. A Boeing 747 is struck in mid-flight by a small private plane whose pilot has suffered a heart attack. With the crew either dead or seriously injured, a flight attendant must fly the plane until a relief pilot is parachuted in.

The Boeing 747-100 used in the film Airport 75 (747 in Peril) was leased from American Airlines for $30,000 a day. Painted in the colors of the fictional airline Columbia Airlines, it was used for two days to film aerial shots, landings, and stunts. In this iconic 1974 disaster film, the long-haul jet is flying from Washington to Los Angeles when it is struck in mid-flight by a small private plane that crashes into the cockpit. During filming, the crew captured spectacular scenes, including the emergency descent, the Utah landscape, and a stunt in which engine number one crashes into a building on the ground. The aircraft used was one of the first “Jumbo Jets” operated by American Airlines at the beginning of the decade.

The Inflight 200 series includes collector's models designed for collectors by collectors.
