Trans World Airlines, founded in 1930 as Transcontinental & Western Air, was a major player in U.S. commercial aviation, known for its pioneering role in transatlantic travel and its innovative service. The airline distinguished itself through its technical advancements and its iconic TWA Flight Center in New York. In the 1950s, TWA, alongside Pan American World Airways, was one of only two American airlines serving Europe. After being taken over by financier Carl Icahn in 1985 and facing several financial difficulties—including bankruptcies in 1992 and the tragedy of TWA Flight 800 in 1996—the airline was ultimately acquired by American Airlines in 2001.

The Boeing 767-231(ER) with registration number N610TW (serial number 22573 / line 70) was a wide-body twin-engine jet operated by Trans World Airlines (TWA). Assembled at the Boeing plant in Everett, it made its debut and entered service during the 767’s heyday as part of the TWA fleet. After a little over 25 years in service and stints with leasing companies (such as Phoenix Aircraft Leasing), the aircraft was retired and subsequently scrapped in July 2009 at Mojave Airport / Logistics Airport (VCV) in California.
