Inter-Canadien Convair CV-580 – C-GQBP – JC Wings 1:400 – XX40307

A true piece of Quebec and Canadian aviation history in 1:400 scale!  The Inter-Canadien Convair CV-580 C-GQBP takes us back to an era when rugged turboprops connected communities throughout Quebec and Eastern Canada with the country's major aviation hubs.

Inter-Canadien traced its roots to the legendary Quebecair, an airline that played an important role in the development of regional aviation throughout Quebec. Following Quebecair's reorganization during the 1980s, the Inter-Canadien name appeared in 1987. The carrier operated an extensive network throughout Quebec and Eastern Canada using aircraft that included the Convair 580, Metro, Fokker and later ATR turboprops. In 1988, Inter-Canadien still owned six 50-passenger Convair 580s and was planning a network of 37 destinations with approximately 940 flights per week.

The Convair 580 was ideally suited to this type of regional operation. Created by converting earlier Convair 340 and 440 airliners, the aircraft received powerful Allison 501 turboprop engines, transforming the classic 1950s design into a fast, rugged and highly capable regional aircraft. More than 170 Convair 340s and 440s were converted, making the CV-580 one of North America's most recognizable classic turboprops.

And C-GQBP has a fascinating history of its own! Originally built as a Convair 340 in 1953, it was delivered to Pan American World Airways as N11137. After flying with several airlines including National Airlines, Allegheny Airlines, LAN-Chile and North Central Airlines, it was converted into a Convair 580 in 1968. The aircraft joined Quebecair in 1986 as C-GQBP before becoming part of Inter-Canadien in 1987.

Recreated by JC Wings in 1:400 scale, this model celebrates much more than a classic aircraft—it represents an important chapter in the aviation history of Quebec and Canada.

More than just a model, this Convair is a reminder of the Quebecair and Inter-Canadien era. An outstanding collectible for Canadian aviation enthusiasts, Convair fans, and anyone who remembers the great regional airlines of Quebec.
