Singapore Airlines is Singapore's national airline, founded in 1947 as Malayan Airways. It is recognized worldwide for its excellent service, its main hub at Changi Airport, and its modern fleet, which includes aircraft such as the Airbus A380 and A350. Founded on May 1, 1947, as Malayan Airways Limited, it operated its first charter flight between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In 1972, the company split into two separate entities: Malaysian Airline System and Singapore Airlines (SIA). It became one of the first airlines in Asia to adopt the Boeing 747, rapidly expanding its routes to Europe, Australia, and North America. As part of its branding, it introduced the iconic “Singapore Girl” concept in 1973. It was the first airline to launch trans-Pacific commercial flights and record-breaking direct ultra-long-haul routes.

The Boeing 747-312 with registration number 9V-SKA (serial number 23026 / line 580) is a wide-body airliner that was formerly part of the Singapore Airlines fleet. It made its maiden flight in 1983 and operated on the airline’s long-haul routes. In August 1994, it was retired from service in the Singapore Airlines fleet. The aircraft was sold to the Australian airline Ansett Australia and registered as VH-INH. In 2001, it was subsequently withdrawn from service and placed in storage.
