The Shelby Cobra is a historically important automobile. But the 1963 Shelby 289 Competition Cobra, CSX2011 chassis. Deserves special attention, because on October 23, 1962, it became the first Shelby Cobra Competition model to be sold to the general public.
John Everly from Kansas was an experienced runner. And in October 1962, he bought a Cobra for $7,471 per CX2011, so he traded his Ferrari 375 MM Spider for this car. A decision that will make Carroll Shelby happy.
It was delivered to Everly with a red paint. But when it first appeared in competition at the Nassau, Bahamas Speed Week two months later the car was wearing the blue and white colors.
Everly was not very successful with the Cobra. In the series of events held in Nassau, he never did better than third place in his category and in the series of events that followed, the car experienced a series of failures and in 1964, Everly sold the car to John Archer.
In January 2008, the car was sold for $1.73 million.
