Curtiss Kittyhawk Mk IV

RAAF No.450 Sqn, FX835 No Orchids, Vasto, Italy, 1944 - Hobby Master 1/72 - HA5508

P-40N 43-23933 MSN 31872 was sent to the RAF as Kittyhawk IV FX835 OK-D and operated by 450 Squadron of the RAAF. The aircraft was the first of at least three aircraft to wear the "No Orchids" cap. In November 1944, the FX835 OK-D was sent to 53 RSU for a major overhaul that had not yet been completed. With FX835 gone, FT881 received the OK-D and No Orchids artwork. In March 1945, the OK-D and "No Orchids" art was sent to FX799 which was SOC on March 28, 1946.

Designed to meet a USAAC requirement for a pursuit aircraft, the P-40 Warhawk was first used on October 14, 1938. This aircraft was rugged, virtually problem-free, and has undergone constant improvements in , armor and engines. The P-40 has served in many combat zones; often outclassed by its opponents in terms of speed, maneuverability and climb rate, it has built a reputation for extreme robustness. Its sturdy construction, firepower and diving ability allowed it to compete with enemy fighters, and it was a great ground attack aircraft. P-40s were also used by the famous Flying Tigers against the Japanese in China.

Hobby Master "1:72 Air Power Series" features cast iron aircraft:
