General Dynamics F-111C Aardvark

RAAF No.6 Sqn, A8-125, Amberley, Australia, 90 years 2007

Hobby Master 1:72  HA3034

In 2007, the Royal Australian Air Force's No. 6 Squadron celebrated its 90th anniversary with a special commemorative livery applied to F-111C A8-125. The iconic swing-wing bomber was adorned with striking anniversary markings, including a stylized "90 Years" emblem and squadron insignia, paying tribute to its long and distinguished service. No. 6 Squadron had operated the F-111 since the early 1970s, playing a vital role in Australia's air strike and reconnaissance capability. A8-125, one of the final F-111s in RAAF service, symbolized the legacy of the aircraft and squadron before their retirement in 2010.

General Dynamics F-111C Aardvark
Designed to meet the combined requirements of the US Air Force and the US Navy, the F-111 Aardvark was first flown on December 21, 1964. Several versions of the F-111 were developed, but the Navy canceled its version in 1968 leaving the Air Force the F-111's sole US operator. The Aardvark was well ahead of its time, pioneering such technologies as terrain following radar, afterburning turbofans and variable sweep wings. Though it was originally conceived as a multi-role fighter, it was better suited to a role as a long-range attack aircraft. It was armed with air-to surface ordnance and was equipped to carry free-fall nuclear weapons.

Hobby Master "1:72 Air Power Series" diecast airplanes feature:
