From 1991 to 2010, the 3rd Fighter Wing, part of the 11th Air Force at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska, operated the F-15C Eagle as its primary air superiority fighter. The F-15C provided vital homeland defense over the northern Pacific and Arctic regions, equipped with advanced radar and AIM-7 Sparrow and AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles. The wing's pilots trained rigorously to maintain air dominance in harsh conditions. The 3rd FW's F-15Cs formed a critical part of the U.S. Air Force's strategic defense during the post Cold War era, ensuring rapid response capabilities to any aerial threats approaching North American airspace from the north.

McDonnell Douglas F-15C Eagle

Designed to meet US Air Force requirements for an air superiority fighter to replace the F-4 Phantom, the F-15 Eagle first flew on July 27, 1972. Following reviews of proposals, the United States Air Force selected McDonnell Douglas's design in 1969 to meet the service's need for a dedicated air superiority fighter. Since entering service in 1976, it is among the most successful modern fighters, with over 100 victories and no losses in aerial combat, with the majority of the kills by the Israeli Air Force.
